Peru's Defence Minister Carlos Diaz and Foreign Minister Hugo de Zela resigned Wednesday after interim President Jose Maria Balcazar deferred the $3.5 billion F-16 fighter jet purchase decision to the next elected government. Both ministers opposed the postponement citing national security concerns. Balcazar, nine months into office, said transitional governments shouldn't commit such large sums.
