Commander Purnendu Tiwari, one of eight naval veterans detained in Qatar in 2022, remains incarcerated in Doha while seven colleagues returned to India in February 2024. The MEA states he faces a separate legal case with court-imposed sentence. His family claims the cases are interconnected and Indian authorities should have secured his release by now.
