What Happened

Economic Affairs Secretary Anuradha Thakur emphasized that disaster resilience must be integrated into infrastructure projects during the design phase, not after disasters occur. She highlighted that global disasters have increased fivefold over five decades, causing hundreds of billions in annual losses. Resilience should guide planning, procurement, financing, and execution of projects. Thakur addressed this at a Coalition for Disaster Resilient Infrastructure event.
