In poll-bound states, parties slow to field women candidates

What Happened

Despite a 2023 women's reservation quota law, analysis of recent elections in poll-bound states reveals most parties marginally increased women candidates. Congress fielded 35 women in Bengal versus seven in 2021. TMC maintained roughly 48-52 women candidates. BJP reduced women nominees from 38 to 33. Tamil Nadu's DMK and AIADMK fielded 19 women each. Progress remains incremental across Assam, Kerala, West Bengal, Tamil Nadu, and Puducherry.
