The 5,000-acre cultivation region, including Gandharvakottai and Adhanakottai, suffered major damage from Cyclone Gaja in 2018. Since cashew trees require five to six years for productivity and thirty-year lifespan, recovery remains difficult. Many farmers continue struggling financially.
