ASI begins drilling into Konark Sun Temple to remove 100-year-old British-era sand

What Happened

The Archaeological Survey of India has begun drilling a passage into the Jagamohan of the 13th-century Konark Sun Temple to remove sand packed inside by British administrators over 100 years ago. Using diamond drilling technology to prevent structural damage, ASI aims to complete the passage drilling within a year before manually extracting sand.
