Apple fixes bug that cops used to extract deleted chat messages from iPhones

What Happened

Apple released a software update fixing a bug that allowed law enforcement to extract deleted messages from iPhones. Notifications displaying message content were cached for up to a month even after deletion. The FBI previously used this vulnerability to recover deleted Signal messages. Signal's president requested Apple address the issue. The fix was backported to iOS 18 devices.
