What Happened
Punjab Vidhan Sabha passed the Jaagat Jot Sri Guru Granth Sahib Satkar Amendment Bill 2026 on April 13. The Bill prescribes seven to twenty years imprisonment and two to ten lakh rupees fine for sacrilege. It defines sacrilege as damaging, burning, stealing, or insulting the Guru Granth Sahib, including online content. This is Punjab's third anti-sacrilege Bill in ten years.
